【１】another / the other / others / the others
結論から言うと、ポイントは次の2つです。
・単数か複数か
・特定できればthe
上記のとおり。
1-1．単数か複数か
次のとおり。
・単数→ another / the other
・複数→ others / the others
「〜s」なので、「複数」ですね。ちなみに、「another」は「an other」のことなので「単数」です。
2-2．特定できればthe
特定できる場合には、theがつきます。
⑴ ● (one) ○(the other)
→2つ目（○）は、単数で特定できるからthe otherです。
⑵ ●(one) ○(another) ■（the other）
→2つ目（○）は単数で不特定だからanotherです。
3つ目（■）は単数で特定だからthe otherです。
⑶ ●(one) ○(another) ■■（the others）
→2つ目（○）は単数で不特定だからanotherです。
→残り2つ（■■）は複数で特定できるからthe othersです。
⑷ ●●●(some) ○○○(others) ■■（the others）
→2組目（◯◯◯）は複数で不特定だからothersです。
3組目（■■）は複数で特定できるからthe othersです。
2-3．英文で確認していきましょう
(1) There are two pens on the desk. One is black, and the other is red.
（机の上に2本のペンがある。一本は黒で、もう一本は赤だ）
→ 2本目は単数で特定できるから「the other」です。
(2) There are three pens on the desk. One is black, and another is red.
（机の上に3本のペンがある。一本は黒で、もう一本は赤だ）
→ 2本目は単数で不特定だから「another」です。
(3) There are 80 students in my class. Some students go to school by bus, and others go to school by train.
（私のクラスには80の学生がいる。バスで学校に来る学生もいるし、電車で来る学生もいる）
→ 複数で不特定だから「others」です。
(4) I have three brothers. One is in Tokyo, and the others are in Osaka.
（私には兄弟が3人いる。１人は東京に、残り2人は大阪にいる）
→ 複数で特定できるから「the others」です。
